The gut-liver axis serves as a crucial pathway through which gut microbes communicate and exert influence over the host’s physiology. Microbial-derived metabolites are key messengers, as they lie at the interface between the microbes and their host. Deciphering specific microbial functions and their metabolic products is essential for advancing targeted therapies for gut and liver diseases. This presentation will delve into the role of microbial-derived metabolites as modulators of human health and will explore the mechanisms driving the efficacy of faecal microbiota transplant (FMT).
