Dr. José Félix Martí Massó, Biodonostia HRI researcher and head of the Neurology department at Donostia University Hospital, has been presented with the Euskadi Research Award 2014. This edition recognises the work of professionals from the area of Science and Technology. Biodonostia HRI put Dr. Martí Massó’s name forward for the award.
The Euskadi Research Award aims to encourage scientific activity and stimulate, promote and value work by qualified researchers and teams from the Basque Country region or outside the region, whose work has had an outstanding positive influence of Euskadi. The Department of Education, Linguistic Policy and Culture holds the Euskadi Research Award every year. Even years are dedicated to acknowledging professionals from the Science and Technology area whilst, in odd years, it looks to the area of Social Sciences and Humanities. The award consists of a 40,000 Euro prize.
Dr. Martí Massó has combined his work over the years with practising as a physician and teaching. He has participated in an extensive list of publications and projects. Many of them have had enormous repercussions in terms of patient benefit, such as Clinical Medicine work on Parkinson’s disease using Cinnarizine or work on describing the pseudomigraine syndrome with pleocytosis and works behind his doctoral thesis, one of which was pioneering in Europe, on the use of the carbidopa-levodopa drug that continues to be the main treatment for Parkinson’s Disease.
