The conference was addressed from the double aspect of the technological development of companies and the management and practice of healthcare professionals.
A conference was held on 13th November on Surgical Innovation, organised by the Biodonostia HRI and Donostialdea IHO. The aim of the conference was to share experiences related to the progress currently being achieved in the area of surgery as a result of public-private collaboration and thereby to foster collaborations on potential innovating projects.
The conference was presented by Mr. Jose Manuel Ladrón de Guevara (Manager, Donostialdea IHO) and Dr. Julio Arrizabalaga (Scientific Director, Biodonostia HRI). During the first part of the event, attendees were addressed by representatives of 6 major companies: Siemens, Philips Healthcare, Covidien-Medtronic, BQ, T-Systems and Medical Simulator, who spoke about their respective experiences with products-services related to 3D printing, new laparoscopic technologies or the training of surgical teams.
This was followed by the presentation of Surgical Innovation experiences, with Dr. Adolfo Beguiristain as the session moderator. In the first place, Mr. Alberto Centeno (Director of the Integrated Management Centre for Technology Training in A Coruña) and Dr. José Noguera (Head of the General and Digestive Surgery Department, CHUAC, in A Coruña) shared their experience of creating the Experimental Surgery Unit – Integrated Management Centre for Technology Training in A Coruña and a product development success story. Next, Dr. Jon Zabaleta (Attending Physician of the Thoracic Surgery Service at the Donostia University Hospital) proceeded to talk about the work carried out internally in this area by the Donostialdea IHO.
The conference ended after a networking session where the attending surgeons had the opportunity to learn in more detail about the work presented during the sessions, both by companies and by the other speakers.
