Distinguished Professor and Chair on the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at University of California, San Diego. Don Cleveland is a cancer biologist and neurobiologist. Recipient of several awards throughout his career including the 2018 Breakthrough Prize for Life Sciences for elucidating the molecular pathogenesis of a type of inherited ALS, including the role of glia in neurodegeneration, and for establishing antisense oligonucleotide therapy in animal models of ALS and Huntington disease.
