Sobre Matilde Bustos: Dr Matilde Bustos was trained in medicine and pathology with emphasis on basic and translational research. During her postdoc studies at Duke University (NC, USA) she explored the mechanisms by which complement and other inflammatory proteins evoke changes in endothelial cell metabolism that can either cause tissue damage (e.g. rejection) or protection (e.g. ischemic preconditioning). Then, she moved back to Spain (Pamplona) and she worked in the impact of cytokines on liver injury, regeneration and hepatoprotection.  She discovered that CT-1 provides a key natural defense in liver against apoptosis. She also found that CT-1 regulates energy metabolism and impedes development of NAFLD. That finding led her to explore CT-1 as a potential therapeutic for this condition.
