Ponente / Hizlaria: Yury Popov, MD, PhD – Assistant Professor of Medicine
Division of Gastroenterology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School

Dr. Yury Popov has a broad expertise in biomedical research relevant to human liver diseases, particularly of biliary etiology, with specific training and expertise in the development of pre-clinical small animal models of liver fibrosis/cirrhosis and cancer, liver cell biology, as well as designing and testing novel therapeutic approaches. To date, this resulted in the successful development of PSC-like mouse model of liver cirrhosis and cancer, elucidating the critical role of avb6 integrin in regulating the hepatic progenitor cell response and driving liver disease, and pre-clinical validation of several novel antifibrotic therapies. Throughout his career he trained, supervised and mentored a number of postgraduate and postdoctoral fellows. As a principal investigator on several universities and industry-funded grants, he successfully administered these projects, communicated with collaborators and published results. His major research focuses on the biology of integrin avb6 and hepatic progenitor cells, animal models of biliary fibrosis and cancer, with a particular emphasis on developing novel, effective therapies for liver cirrhosis and its sequelae.
