Nuclear imaging encompasses several modalities, some of them used routinely for medical diagnostics, but also for preclinical research (small animal imaging). In the last decade, the range of applications has expanded, including dosimetry for radioisotope therapy or dose verification of particle therapy. In this talk I will first introduce the background of nuclear imaging technologies and discuss current developments, opportunities and challenges in the actual landscape.
Magdalena Rafecas’ research focuses on Nuclear Medical Imaging, mainly in Emission Tomography and her research interest are:
- Emission Tomography (PET, SPECT, Compton Imaging) and multimodality
- Clinical and small animal imaging
- Imaging in particle therapy
- Novel detectors and scanner prototypes, dedicated imaging systems
- Physical Models and Monte-Carlo simulations
- Image Reconstruction
