Ponente / Hizlaria:    Nuria Gago-Lopez, PhD, Spanish National Cancer Research Centre-CNIO

Nuria is a staff scientist in the Cancer Cell Biology Programme at CNIO. Her goal is to understand the cell diversity and potentiality of tissue-specific stem cells to use in cell therapy and regenerative medicine. In 2009, Nuria finished her PhD under the mentorship of Dr. Ander Izeta and  Dr. Antonio Bernad at the Inbiomed Foundation in the Basque Country. She obtained her PhD from the Department of Molecular Biology at the University Autonoma of Madrid. In 2010, she joined Dr. Robb Maclellan Lab´s firstly in the division of Cardiology at UCLA, and then at the University of Washington to carry out her postdoc. In July of 2014, Nuria joined Dr. Erwin Wagner´s Lab at CNIO to understand the role of epidermal stem cells in the development of Psoriasis.

During her PhD, she characterized and identified human skin-derived precursor cells. She demonstrated that these human SKPs are depleted in an age-dependent manner. In her postdoctoral training, Nuria identified two distinct populations of human cardiosphere-derived cells with divergent potentiality based on their expression of CD90. These findings and other collaborations have been published in international journals such us Stem Cells, PLoS One and Stem Cell Reports. Her current focus is to unravel the contribution of epidermal stem cells in chronic inflammatory skin diseases, such as Psoriasis.
